I had the good fortune to grow up in Commerce, Texas where my parents taught at Texas A&M University. I went to college at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. The highlight of my undergraduate college career was spending a year in Durham, England studying 18th Century Restoration Comedy and Shakespeare. After completing my undergraduate degree I then went on to earn my Secondary teaching certificate from Texas State College in San Marcos, Texas.
I was recruited by Fort Worth I.S.D. and began my teaching career at Monning Middle School teaching 7th grade English and Reading. I then taught at William James Middle School for five years. It was during this period that I became interested in school leadership and began pursuing my Master’s in Mid-Management.
After earning my Master’s, I was promoted to administrator for Tier I Leonard DAEP School and spent five years there. While at Tier I Leonard, I became a first time mother and because of my daughter became interested in the Montessori Method of education. I then moved into the position of Assistant Principal of Daggett Montessori for four years. It was at Daggett Montessori I discovered my “elementary heart” and that there is nothing more wonderful than being a part of a child’s formal education from his very first step into school. I truly understood how critical my role is in creating life long learners.
My long-range goal and ultimate dream came true when I was asked to lead Ridglea Hills in 2010.
