ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS 3rd ANNUAL PROBLEM SOLVING COMPETITION

Elementary Students Compete in Solving Real-World Problems

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth ISD has completed the 3rd Annual Problem Solving Competition with six different schools taking tops honors.

The Problem Solving Competition involves all of FWISD’s seventy-seven elementary schools competing to earn the title of First Place Problem Solvers. Problem Solving is a key component of FWISD’s mathematics curriculum.

After campus level competition, school teams are chosen for District-wide competition. The contest was designed so students could experience math in a “real-world” setting. Students work in pairs, groups, and individually (depending on the task) to solve puzzles and find solutions to complex problems.

There are seven events. The first is the Problem Solving event in which all students work simultaneously. Students then rotate through the remaining six events: Pentominoes, Sudoku, Witzzle Pro, SET, Logical Journey of the Zoombinis and Math for The Real World.
